KSU fashion design teacher Linda Ohrn-McDaniel uses digitized free-motion embroidery, beading and other surface techniques to create unique garments. In 2006 she co-designed the inaugural gown for Ohio’s incoming First Lady, incorporating text about family and careers.

The Heusingers’ eclectic collection of Japanese art includes woodblock prints, lacquerware, ceramics, sagemono (objects that hang from the obi), paintings, sculpture, and textiles. Highlighted in their collection are porcelain pieces created by late 19C Imperial Household artists.

Lois Bryant has taught textile design and fiber art at RISD, Parsons School of Design, and the University of Michigan. Her work is in permanent collections of Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, and Liz Claiborne Inc. Follow her design process, which utilizes photography, Photoshop, InDesign, collage, and the computer-aided, multi-harness AVL handloom.

This member exhibition is part of a multi-year Textile Benefit project using modern and historical textiles from the CMA Education Art Collection. Used whole or fragmented, these textiles are either incorporated into works of textile art or provide the spark of inspiration for entirely new pieces.

Proceeds from the sale of textiles formerly in CMA’s Education Art collection benefit the museum’s textile collection and Education Department programs.
