Heights Arts, in partnership with businesses and nimble-fingered helpers throughout the area, is presenting Knitscape, a temporary community public art project under the creative oversight of artist Carol Hummel in residence at Heights Arts Gallery August, 2009.

Knitscape will create a visual line of color and pattern in the Cedar Lee and Larchmere business districts with parking meter poles and selected trees being covered by colorful knitted and crocheted cozies. For information on dates and how you can participate visit:

We all have an extraordinary opportunity to learn professional archival mounting and preservation techniques from Robin Hanson, CMA's Associate Conservator of Textiles, when she conducts the September 9th Playday. This is the first time such a Playday is being offered and is a rare chance to learn from an expert in her field.

Robin Hanson, CMA's Associate Conservator of Textiles, will talk about proper care and storage of textiles, both the textile art objects that TAA members may themselves create, and those heirloom textiles that we all have in our collections at home. She will cover proper vacuuming techniques, rolling of sturdy two-dimensional textiles, and boxed storage of three–dimensional textiles.

Lorraine Glessner is an Assistant Professor at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA.  Her work involves the complex interrelation of materials collaged in encaustic (wax).  Glessner’s works are visually uplifting, fanciful, rich in color and textiles, and details that challenge the imagination

Fabric Giveaway!


Esperanza Threads [www.esperanzathreads.com] has organic cotton and hemp/silk scraps that are both dyed and undyed which we would be glad to give to an artist who could use them. All we ask is that they pick them up. We need space cleared by August 31. 

The fabrics are:  color-grown cotton [brown, sage, natural] weaves with jacquard designs and plain color grown twills in brown, sage, natural  jersey and interlock natural fleece,
