Ohio Knitting Mills Collection Visit Friday, December 18th, 2009 from 1-3:00 ![]() Ohio Knitting Mills, a Cleveland business founded in 1928, became one of the largest knitwear manufacturers in the U.S. Its peak production years were 1947 to 1974, and it produced knitwear for labels such as Pendleton and Van Heusen. Many decades later, after the mill had closed, Clevelander Steven Tatar acquired an archive of over 10,000 garments. Join us at a warehouse location just minutes from University Circle and hear about the history of Ohio Knitting Mills, the special knitting machines which were used, and see some of the extraordinary examples from the archives. Mr. Tatar holds occasional Cleveland sales of some of the knitwear, and though this is not a shopping trip, our visit will precede the next day's open house sale. Those who wish to shop may do so after our presentation and in advance of the scheduled sale day. For further information about the knitting mill, see www.ohioknittingmills.com. Light refreshments will be provided. Your check is your reservation. TAA members $30, nonmembers $40. Attendance is limited to 12 people because of space constraints, so reserve early for this rare opportunity! Maps and/or driving instructions will be provided to registrants. Contact Charla at 216-381-2383, ccoatoam@yahoo.com. |
