Congratulations!

  

New TAA member Annette Boncek recently had a studio art quilt titled Spring Awake purchased for permanent display by the Rocky River Public Library.

TAA member Joanne Strehl Bast had an oil painting accepted into the second annual juried members show at the Towson Arts Collective, York Street, Towson, MD. She also had a felted wall piece accepted into the Creative Arts Council biennial show at Strathmore Arts Place in Rockville, MD. The felted piece won the Handweavers of America Award.

Lorraine Glessner is an Assistant Professor at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA.  Her work involves the complex interrelation of materials collaged in encaustic (wax).  Glessner’s works are visually uplifting, fanciful, rich in color and textiles, and details that challenge the imagination

Sixth Annual Fiber CAFE fiber show will be held at the Peninsula Library from Saturday August 1st through Saturday, August 29th.  Any media that uses or speaks to fiber is eligible for entry.  Two categories are judged, functional and non-functionalPlease note that there are increased award prizes this year.  In each of the two categories, prizes of $75, $50 and $25 for first, second and third place will be awarded.  Please click on the link for the entry form for additional details.

TAA member Leslie Organ will be at will be at Shaker Square Market every 3rd Saturday (7/18, 8/15 and 9/19) selling her "found and refined" garments (embellished t-shirts, blouses, light weight jackets and sweaters).  Many of the garments will feature vintage laces.  Drop by to say hi and get some seasonal produce as well.

Play Day with CMA Textile Conservator
Robin Hanson

Robin Hanson, CMA's Associate Conservator of Textiles, will talk about proper care and storage of textiles, both the textile art objects that TAA members may themselves create, and those heirloom textiles that we all have in our collections at home. She will cover proper vacuuming techniques, rolling of sturdy two-dimensional textiles, and boxed storage of three–dimensional textiles.

New Location


On June 2, Bead Q moved its westside store to
19306 Detroit Road, Rocky River, 440 333-4367.  Bead Q's eastside store is located at 8584 E Washington, Chagrin Falls, 440 708-1771.  Bead Q offers TAA members a 10% discount on purchases other than tools, sterling silver, and Swaroski crystals.   The store is open Monday - Saturday 10 - 7:00, Sunday 12-5:00, and closed on Tuesdays.

Parade the Circle:  The Marilyn's
TAA Members Mary Ann Conn-Brody, Roz Kvet, and Sandy Shelenberger were part of 100 Marilyn Monroe's for the 20th Annual Parade the Circle on June 13 at Cleveland Museum of Art.  Can you guess who these Marilyns are?!!

Quilt National ‘09



Congratulations to TAA Members Rebecca Cross  and Mary Lou Alexander who have work accepted into the prestigious Quilt National '09 Exhibit at the Dairy Barn Cultural Arts Center, 8000 Dairy Lane in Athens,OH, followed by a national tour.

Exhibit runs May 23rd through Sept.7, 2009.

These six northeast Ohio artists express their creativity in fiber or reference textiles in their two- and three-dimensional work. Using a variety of materials besides thread and cloth--silk cocoons, twisted paper, fiberglass screening, plaster, and found objects--most employ traditional fiber techniques such as dyeing, weaving, embroidery, applique, and quilting, while some also incorporate photography, printing, or drawing.
