Silent Auction Fund-Raiser features hundreds of ethnic, antique, collectible, and exotic textiles. Proceeds from the sale of textiles formerly in CMA’s Education Art collection benefit the museum’s textile collection and Education Department programs. Also up for bid this year are several services (lecture/lesson/workshop) that have been generously offered by members. These include a presentation by Nina Setrakian on the Egyptian origins of Nagada Clothing, a 2 hour airbrush lesson with Sandy Shelenberger, a presentation by Marty Young on Japanese textiles and quilts, a mud-dye workshop with Barbara Kathman, and a viewing of textile treasures in storage with our Curator, Louise W. Mackie.  Consider bidding on one of the presentations for your guild, church or group of interested friends!

Cleveland Heights Award Winning Home

Join Dorothy Ceruti in a tour of her modernist styled home in Cleveland Heights. For over a period of three years Dorothy worked closely with architect Thom Stauffer of Kent until completion in 2004. The house won the American Institute of Architects' Cleveland Chapter first prize in all categories and was reviewed by Plain Dealer critic Steven Litt. Visit her fiber and metal studios and view her collections of beads, prints, eclectic furniture and artist made stamps.

Members Show at The Artist Archive of the Western Reserve

 Shirley Mc Elhaney has two pieces, "Lilacs" and "November Dream" on exhibit with the Members Show at The Artist Archives Of The Western Reserve: 1834 East 123rd Street, Cleveland, Ohio. Also exhibiting  is TAA member Elise Newman.   Opening Reception is Friday, May 1, 2009 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM.

Threads of Inspiration

A multi-venue fiber arts show in Vermilion, OH curated by TAA Member Christy Gray.

Participating artists are Si-Yun Chang, Jen Craun, Emily Felderman, Britt Friedman, Christy Gray, Christine Mauersberger, Kathleen Van Meter, and Marty Young.  The exhibit will run through May 25, 2009. Inland Seas Maritime Museum, 480 Main St., Vermilion,OH and other venues.

Exhibit at Heights Arts

 

HeightsArts, 2173 Lee Rd, Cleveland Heights is currently showing paintings by Migiwa Orimo, silkscreen by Jeanne Regan, and ceramic sculpture by Yumiko Goto through June, 6, 2009.

This is a lovely exhibit and includes an interesting textile-related installation piece by Migiwa Orimo.

Lorraine Glessner is an Assistant Professor at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA.  Her work involves the complex interrelation of materials collaged in encaustic (wax).  Glessner’s works are visually uplifting, fanciful, rich in color and textiles, and details that challenge the imagination
