Lecture Between the Warp
and Weft: A Close-Up on Fair Trade Moroccan Textiles and the Artisans that
Make Them CMA Green Room Alia Kate has been a fair trade
Moroccan textile importer since 2008, after working and traveling extensively
in the region where she had the opportunity to meet and learn from women
artisans. Her presentation on the lives of the Amazigh, the art of weaving in
Morocco, and the challenges of artisans
cooperatives in entering foreign markets is rich with personal anecdotes and
set against the backdrop of Morocco's political and economic history. |

Volunteers Needed We are in need of volunteers to help teach weaving, sewing and knitting skills to immigrant women. As you teach them these skills, you will also provide them with a safe environment to learn and practice English skills and learn about our culture. We are meeting at the Cudell Center on Lorain and West Ave. On the second floor are twelve floor looms that we will be using to teach English through weaving. We are meeting on Tuesdays from 11:30 until around 4pm. We welcome anyone who is interested. You do not need to know how to weave, we will teach you. You just need to be willing to welcome strangers to our country and have a warm heart!! Please feel free to call me at any time with questions, and of course to sign up. We are also looking for sewing machines and any "left over" fiber craft supplies you may have. 440-835-9394. Warm regards, Ellen

I have recently been put in charge of the two art galleries in The Gathering Place facilities, East and West. I am interested in finding local artists who would like to have their art displayed with us. I am currently scheduling for March on the west side and for July on the east side.
