3rd Annual Octavofest: Book and Paper Arts Events These events included multiple exhibitions, lectures, artist demonstrations, workshops and classes, art tours, and lectures that filled the entire month of October and brought the exciting world of book and paper arts to a wide audience of all ages. Octavofest (which takes its name from a traditional bookmaking format) kicks off on October 1st with the 4th Annual 4Ever Morgan Open House and Silent Auction and Octavofest 2011 Opening, an event sponsored by the Morgan Art of Papermaking Conservatory and Educational Foundation, at 1754 E. 47th Street, Cleveland, OH 44103. Untangling Threads: Women Artisans in Morocco’s Rug Weaving Industry Alia Kate, curator and founder of Kantara: Moroccan Rugs; Anna Beeke, documentary photographer Opening on September 24th and running through October 31st at Oberlin's FAVA Gallery is Untangling Threads: Women Artisans in Morocco’s Rug Weaving Industry. This exhibit displays handwoven Moroccan rugs beside documentary photographs of the weavers and their families, thereby creating a link between the traditional textural and modern visual arts. TAA Lecture Join nationally recognized textile artist and quilter, Sandy Shelenberger, as she shares her experiences, from inspiration to finished artwork. Sandy uses surface design techniques such as painting, screenprinting and airbrushing to express her evolving inner journey.
