Depth and Breadth: Quiltmaking in the Twenty-first Century


TAA member and past President June O’Neil is one of 5 artists nationally who have been invited to show their work at Depth and Breadth: Quiltmaking in the Twenty-first Century.  The exhibition will run from
October 12, 2008 thru January 4, 2009 at the Butler Institute of American Art, Trumbull Gallery,9350 East Market Street, Howland, OH. (330)609-9900.  Artists include:  Bob Adams, Lisa Call, Jan Myers-Newbury, June O'Neil, Jen Swearington, and Kathleen Loomis.  This exhibit was orgnanized by the Butler and curated by TAA member Mary Lou Alexander.

TAA Lecture by Lois Bryant

Follow Lois  Bryant’s design process through photography, Photoshop, InDesign, collage, to the computer-aided multi-harness AVL handloom.  Bryant has taught textile design and fiber art at RISD, Parsons School of Design, and U. of Michigan.  Her work is in permanent collections of Cooper Hewitt Museum, Chicago Art Institute, and Liz Claiborne stores. 

Lecture free to TAA members and full-time students; $5 at the door for general public.

Congratulations to Elise Newman!


The Ohio Water Color Society is celebrating its 30th year with its annual juried art show at the Riffe Gallery in
Columbus, OH.  Alvaro Castagnet of Uruguay and Australia was the jurist and will be conducting workshops.  Local artist and TAA member Elise Newman, who was selected for the very first show has been selected again out of some 260 competing artists to join the 60 artist exhibition.  Her entry "A Day in May" is being used as promotional material for the event. (see http://www.oac.state.oh.us/riffe/)  The exhibit will run from the November 6th through January 11th, 2009..

Holiday Open House and Wine Reception

The Kent State University Museum Store is having a Holiday Open House and Wine Reception on Thursday, November 13 from
5:00 – 7:00 PM. The store will be featuring the work of  local consignment artists Jane Peterson (TAA member), Diane Taninecz, Martha Regula, and Ginger Wankewycz. There will be demonstrations of design techniques. The Museum Store carries a wide range of merchandise from hand-crafted jewelry, textiles, and needlework to books, stationery, and much more. See the Museum’s latest exhibitions, enjoy a glass of wine, and shop for great gifts for yourself, family, and friends. The Kent State University Museum is located in Rockwell Hall on the front campus of the University on the corner of S. Lincoln and E. Main Streets (Rt. 59) in Kent, OH. Join Mary Ann Weber as she leads us to create lovely cabochon pins.  Capture a cabochon with stacked stitches.  Then decorate the pin by surrounding the central cabochon with several other bead embroidery stitches.  You can bring something you want to feature or use one provided.  The size of the cab should be small so that you can almost finish in a day.

Supply List: Bring small, sharp pointed scissors & lunch

Materials Fee: All materials, beads, cabochon provided for $20.00

  • All Play Days are from 10:00-3:00.
  • Bring a bag lunch.
