TAA members June O’Neil, Ruta Marino, Barb Lind, JoAnn Giordano, Kathleen Van Meter, and Marty Young will be exhibiting fiber works at the South Wing Gallery  in Cleveland Heights. Brit Friedman and Sharon Bell, whose works were shown in Focus: Fiber 2008, will also be participating in the show.  The exhibit cannot be defined as a “quilt show” as the fiber pieces present a wide array of approaches to working with fabrics, threads, and various other non-quilt materials.

The South Wing Gallery is located in St. Paul’s Church, 2747 Fairmount Blvd, Cleveland Heights, at the corner of Fairmount and Coventry Road.

Curated by Martha Young, the show runs from September 5 through November 2, 2008.

October 21, 2008   COLOURS - THE MORE THE MERRIER

Free yourself from the tyranny of dye lots and find use for your odds and ends.  Experiment and play with yarns, learn about yarn storage, handling and preparation of palettes for your projects.  Compose your own yarn without spinning and blend your own colours without a dyepot by mixing weights and fibres.  Try a variety of techniques including gradual shading, stranded knitting and intarsia, both controlling colours and using random oddball techniques.  Embellishing or removing colour 'errors'.

October 22, 2008  VARIOUS VARIEGATIONS

How often does a beautiful skein of hand painted yarn knit up to be a disappointment? Discover new ways of knitting with your hand painted yarns. Look at the styles of variegated yarns and for which purposes they are most suited. Try stranded patterns, slipped stitches, intarsia, bobbles and assembled knitting.  Garment/project planning, how to tackle garments to avoid blotching and mismatching of sections.

Apronicity Program

We are participating in the Fabric Shop Hop's Apronicity program but would like our program to be year round. Our goal is to provide aprons to women in a local shelter in northeast
Ohio. If you are interested in making an apron and sending it to us, we will make sure that it is given to a woman at the shelter. We will add a special note or card with positive thoughts into the pocket. Or, if you would like to add your own card, that would be wonderful. We are also interested in ATC's or any other special crafts/surprises that you would like to add to your apron that can be placed into the apron pockets.

If you are interested we are offering customers 20% off of their orders from our website untilOctober 31st. All that you need to do is type in - Apron - in the coupon code box. We are hoping that you will use at least some of that fabric to make aprons for the women!

When you finish your apron, please mail it to: Sondra Borrie - 57 East Shore Blvd., Timberlake, Ohio 44095. I am having them mailed to my home because they are precious gifts for special women. We will then mail them to Sonja Tugend, who is a fiberartist on our website, and she will deliver them to the shelter.
